We understand how important it is for our customers to know exactly what they’re feeding their beloved pets. With this in mind, we have taken time to gather as much information about the food, its ingredients, and the manufacturing process, as we can to ensure we answer all of your questions and give you the best level of advice we possibly can.
Recently, we were asked about how to store the pet food to help it maintain its freshness. Here are some tips on how to store pet food effectively:
- Keep it in the original packaging: Pet food bags and containers are designed to keep food fresh and protect it from moisture and pests.
- Seal the bag tightly: If you've opened a bag of pet food, be sure to reseal it properly. Use a clip, binder, or airtight container to seal the bag and prevent air and moisture from getting in.
- Use an airtight container: If you want an extra layer of protection, transfer the food to an airtight container.
- Store in a cool, dry place: Keep pet food in a cool, dry area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. High temperatures can cause the food to degrade and lose nutritional value.
- Avoid humidity: Moisture can cause pet food to spoil and can even lead to mould growth. Keep the food in a place where humidity is minimal.
- Don't store in the garage: Garages are not ideal for pet food storage, as they can become very hot in the summer and cold in the winter, compromising the food's quality. Store pet food indoors instead.
- Clean the storage container: If you're using an airtight container, clean it regularly to prevent the buildup of oils and food residue. This can help maintain the freshness of the food.
- Consider portion control: If you buy large bags of pet food, consider portioning out smaller amounts for daily use. This reduces the frequency of opening and closing the bag, which can expose the food to air and moisture.
- Be mindful of food type: Different types of our pet food (dry kibble, canned) have varying storage requirements. Follow our recommendations in the product listing for the specific type of food you're using.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your pet's food remains fresh and safe for consumption throughout its shelf life. Always refer to our instructions and recommendations for specific storage guidelines for the pet food you use.
